Writer/director Jeff Abugov, who previously
worked as a scribe for Roseanne, The Golden Girls, and Grace Under
Fire… obviously had the same thought as I, which is undoubtedly
why he made 1999’s The Mating Habits of the Earthbound Human,
a mock-umentary about the dating scene here on Earth as narrated
by super-smart space alien David Hyde Pierce, who also happens
to play a space alien in the movie. (Was that out loud? Oops…)
The movie follows Mackenzie Astin and Carmen Electra
from their first meeting through the better part of their relationship,
which really does not break new ground. What is really humorous
is the way Pierce dead-pans the narration, from the alien’s
point of view, as a sort of misguided interpretation of what’s
really going on.
Well, it’s funny for the first ten minutes
or so. |
